Talkmio vs Chatling is a comparison between two tools that look similar on a landing page and feel different in daily use. Both put an AI assistant on your website that answers from your own content. Both can pass a conversation to a human. The difference is in what surrounds the assistant: Talkmio is built around a support inbox, tickets and live visitors, while Chatling is built around creating AI agents, with actions, workflows and a choice of models. This article compares them honestly, using each vendor’s public information, and says plainly where Chatling is the better fit.
We make Talkmio, so read this with that in mind. We have kept to facts from the two pricing pages and documentation as they were when this was written, in October 2026, and we recommend checking both before you decide, because plans change.

Neither is simply better. The right choice depends on whether you are mainly running a support desk with some AI in front of it, or building an automated agent that takes actions.
What Each Tool Is Built For
Talkmio starts from the support conversation. Its assistant, Mio, reads your website, FAQ and uploaded documents (PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD, CSV, HTML) and answers only from that content. When Mio cannot answer, when the visitor asks for a person, complains or asks about a specific order, the chat is handed to your team. Around that sit an Inbox with filters and internal notes, numbered tickets, a Talkmio e-mail address for forwarded support mail, live visitors, contacts, reports and a mobile app.
Chatling’s pricing page describes a different centre of gravity. You create AI agents and chatbots, give them actions that run while they converse, and connect workflows that fire on events such as a new conversation or contact. Live chat and handoff exist, with features such as canned responses and routing described on the plans, but the product reads as an agent builder first and a help desk second. If you want a chatbot that triggers steps in other systems, that matters.
Pricing Compared
Both vendors have a free plan, so you can test either at no cost. On the paid side, the structures differ, so a direct comparison needs care. Talkmio charges in euro: Pro is €19 a month or €190 a year with two months free, and Ultimate is €49 a month or €490 a year. Paid plans start with a 14-day trial, payment is by PayPal or bank transfer and VAT of 21% is added at checkout. Larger Enterprise plans exist for bigger teams.
Chatling charges in US dollars. Its Starter plan is $25 a month, or about $21 a month billed $250 a year. Growth is $75 a month, and Scale is $295 a month. It sells add-ons: an extra seat is $10 a month, an extra AI agent $3 and removing the “Powered by Chatling” label $35 a month on plans that do not already include it. Chatling also offers a 7-day money-back guarantee on first purchases.
At the entry level, Talkmio Pro is cheaper per month and includes three operators and removal of the “Powered by Talkmio” label, while Chatling Starter gives two seats and a larger knowledge base measured in characters. The labels and limits change, so compare the current pages for the plan you would really buy.
How AI Usage Is Counted
The two tools count AI usage differently, and this shapes your costs. Talkmio counts AI answers: Free includes 50 a month, Pro 1,000, and Ultimate 5,000. One answer is one answer, and you can see the usage in your subscription settings.
Chatling counts AI credits, and the credits used per reply depend on the AI model you choose. Its pricing page lists a small number of credits for lightweight models and many more for the largest ones, so the same 1,750 credits can cover very different numbers of replies. That is a real advantage if you want to choose a stronger model for a high-value agent and a cheaper one for simple questions. It is also harder to forecast. If you prefer a simple monthly allowance, Talkmio’s way of counting is easier to plan around.
Human Handoff and the Support Desk
This is the clearest difference. In Talkmio, handoff is part of a full inbox. The conversation gets a “needs human” badge, you receive a browser notification and, if nobody is online, an e-mail and a push notification on the mobile app. Filters (All, Mine, Unassigned, Unanswered, Mio replied, Closed), assignment, priority from Low to Urgent, status, internal notes and a response time target with an “overdue” badge turn the chat into a working queue. Every conversation can become a numbered ticket, and the e-mail channel lets support mail flow into the same place. Our article on tickets versus live chat explains why teams want both.
Chatling also offers live chat with handoff to a person, and its plan descriptions mention canned responses, routing to a team or agent and a summary shown to the agent when a chat is handed over. For a team that mostly wants an AI agent with a handoff path, that may be enough. For a team that lives in the inbox all day, Talkmio’s desk is the deeper of the two.
Where Chatling Is the Better Choice
Being fair matters more than being persuasive, so here are the cases where we would point you to Chatling:
- You want actions and workflows. Chatling describes actions an agent can run mid-conversation and workflows triggered by events. Talkmio’s documentation describes an assistant that answers from your content and hands off, not a visual workflow builder.
- You want to choose the AI model. Chatling lets you pick from several models and shows the credit cost of each. Talkmio’s documentation does not describe a model picker.
- You need a very large knowledge base measured in characters. Chatling’s plans list millions of characters, which can suit large documentation sets.
- You build several agents. Chatling is organised around multiple agents per account, with extra agents as add-ons.
If any of these is your main requirement, Chatling deserves a trial before you commit to anything else.
Where Talkmio Is the Better Choice
We would point you to Talkmio in these cases:
- You run support, not just a bot. The Inbox, tickets, internal notes, assignment, priorities and reports are core features, not extras.
- You want live visitors. Talkmio shows who is on your site right now, with country, page, device and source, and lets you start the chat.
- You need e-mail and social channels. Pro includes the e-mail channel and tickets, and Ultimate and Enterprise add Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp messages in the same inbox, plus API access and reports export.
- You want data in the EU. Talkmio stores data on servers in the EU (Germany), and only the conversation text and relevant knowledge base excerpts go to the AI model provider.
- You want simple setup. One snippet before the closing body tag, or a WordPress plugin with a site key, and modules for platforms such as PrestaShop, OpenCart, Magento, Joomla and Drupal.
Languages and Knowledge Sources
Chatling states that its AI understands and responds in over 80 languages. Mio replies in the language the visitor writes in, including Lithuanian, English, German, Polish, Russian, Spanish and French and more than thirty others, and the chat window is translated too. Questions in one language find answers written in another, so a Lithuanian question can be answered from an English FAQ. For a multilingual audience, test the languages you actually serve with real questions in both tools. Our guide to multilingual live chat explains what to check.
On knowledge sources, both read your website and uploaded files. In Talkmio, add your website, single pages, Q&A pairs, free text or files up to 15 MB in Mio AI, re-read on demand, and use Try Mio to see which pieces each answer used. The plan limits the number of pages Mio can keep: 20 on Free, 200 on Pro and 1,000 on Ultimate.
How to Choose in One Afternoon
Do not decide from a feature table alone. Take an afternoon and run the same test in both tools:
- Pick twenty real questions from your inbox or phone log, including five that need a person.
- Add the same website and documents to both tools.
- Ask all twenty questions in each and note which answers came from your content, which were wrong and how each tool handled the hand-off.
- Have a colleague answer a handed-off chat in each tool and note how easy it is.
- Compare the monthly cost of the plan you would actually need at your expected volume.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is Chatling a live chat tool or a chatbot builder?
Its public pages present it mainly as an AI agent builder, with actions, workflows and a choice of models, and it also includes live chat with handoff to a human agent. Talkmio is the reverse: a live chat and support inbox with an AI assistant in front. Your main need decides.
Which is cheaper, Talkmio or Chatling?
At entry level Talkmio Pro costs €19 a month and Chatling Starter $25 a month, and the plans include different things, such as seats, AI usage and knowledge size. Both have free plans. Compare the current pricing pages for the plan you would buy, because limits change.
Can I choose the AI model in Talkmio?
Not as a setting that Talkmio’s documentation describes. Talkmio counts usage as AI answers per month, which makes costs easy to forecast, and it does not ask you to pick a model. Chatling lets you choose among models and counts credits that vary with the model. If model choice matters to you, Chatling is the better fit.
Does Talkmio have actions or workflows like Chatling?
Talkmio’s documentation describes an assistant that answers from your content and hands off to people, not a visual workflow builder. If you need an agent that runs actions in other systems during a conversation, Chatling is stronger there. Talkmio is stronger on the inbox, tickets and live visitors.
Where is my data stored with Talkmio?
On servers in the EU (Germany). Only the conversation text and relevant knowledge base excerpts go to the AI model provider, and you can export or delete your data at any time by writing to support. Check Chatling’s own privacy documents for how it handles data.
How do I test both before deciding?
Add the same website to both free plans, ask twenty real customer questions including five that need a person, and compare the answers and hand-offs. Then let a colleague take over a handed-off chat in each tool. An hour of testing tells you more than any comparison table.
The Bottom Line
Talkmio vs Chatling is not a question with one right answer. Choose Chatling if you want an agent builder with actions, workflows and model choice. Choose Talkmio if you want an AI assistant inside a real support desk, with an inbox, tickets, live visitors, e-mail and social channels and EU data storage. Test both on your own questions.
